Pop Art
![]()
Create a pop art effect on a picture. I’m going to show you 2 different methods on 2 different pictures.
I have made a guess at which of the two tutorials you want to see first. Hope I guessed right. If I didn’t, the one of the building is coming up real soon so be patient!
Get a picture to use for this tutorial… you can see the one I’m using below.
Now that you’ve opened your picture, go to Layer >> Duplicate Layer.
On the bottom right of photoshop you will see two layers. Select the bottom one and change the opacity to 0%. You can see how this is done in the picture below.
Now go to Image >> Adjustments >> Threshold. Once the screen has come up pick one side of the image and look at it, now move the scroll until it looks good.

Once again select the top layer and change the opacity to 50%. Then go to Image >> Adjustments >> Threshold and fix the other side, you should get something like this.
Now you’ve got the shape your happy with merge the layers by pressing ctrl + e. You can use the paint bucket to change the colour of the background.
My final result!
Now for the second method…
You can change your photographs into a pop art piece in a matter of seconds. Most pop art pieces consists of high saturated neon colors. Here is how you create such effect on photoshop:

Hold down CTRL + U. A Hue/Saturation screen should pop up. Change the saturation to 100:
Now that you’ve added the neon colors to your photograph, you need to add an effect that will make your photogrpahs look like a painting. Press: Filter > Brush Strokes… > Cross Hatch. Change your settings to the same one found below:
This is the end result:

Nice technique, and nicer pic used! :p
However, I’m not sure I know how to decrease the CAPACITY of a layer (he he).
Thanks for the comment esotropicCyclops (what!),
I have the Capacity to fix mistakes with one click of my moose

Oh nice tutorial, but why not a guy instead
I wrote this comment before actually trying your steps I looked at the final result and though wow cool. but then I tried it and it didnt work as you stated, firstly you let us save the image and I couldnt work with it (cos its a .gif) lol. so I hand to change to rgb, I suppose most would know how to do that, but newbies don’t! Then the step where you say to lower the capacity to zero on the bottom layer, in your image your showing its the top layer or 1st layer so there I got confused. My ending results were nothing like yours i actually stopped when i realized the iamge was transparent so I guess I may have either not followed it correctly or maybe something else heh
