Jimmy Hendrix Signature

There’s nothing like a signature creation to brighten up your day and brush up on your skills.

This is an in depth tutorial made for beginners that will show you step by step how to compose a well structured signature for all of the beginner GFX’rs out there.

This tutorial touches on a range of skills in photoshop, designed to exercise your photoshop skills.

Make a new image , mine is 400*150 and put in your stock , resize it and move as you like .

This is what my stock looks like normally

In the sig ..

Duplicate the stock layer
Then go to filter-Distort-Ocean Ripple .
Choose the settings you like , set to hard light , around 34% opacity .

Duplicate your stock layer again ( move to top ) m now smudge your signature towards the edges , erase over the face and set to luminosity at 100%

Duplicate the stock once more
( move to top )
Set this layer to screen at 100%

Make a new layer and add a gradient with the following settings

This will be your lighting . so make it a radial gradient and place it where the lighting is coming from . On my stock you can see that the light is shining on the right side ( his left ) of Hendrix’s face , so put the lighting on the right side , like so .

go to new layer – image – apply image
Filter – Brush Strokes – Spatter
Choose your own settings , set to lighten and erase around the body and other places you want to

Insert your original stock again but don’t resize it . Pick an interesting part and move it to the left of your signature , erase around it and set it to lighten , lower the opacity to around 30% .

Do the same for the right side except set it to screen and lower opacity

Now go to new layer – Image – Apply image
Now go to filter- Blur – Gaussian blur
choose your own setting

set to normal at low opacity :

Now go to new layer – image – apply image
Now go to Filter – Sharpen – Sharpen
leave on normal 100%

Now the lines :

Make a new layer and with rectangular marquee tool , make a rectangle on the sig . Make it any color you want . Now duplicate and move the dup to the right or the left of it . Press Ctrl+U and change the hue so it is a different color . Merge these 2 layers . Move them to the left of your sig .

Now press Ctrl+T and rotate it , and make it longer so it stretches to the edge of the sig . Now duplicate this layer and move it to the the right of the sig . Merge these layers .

Now erase the bottom of them so it looks like it is behind the body of your stock .

and then erase over them with a splatter brush .

Set the layer to screen at 100%

Make a new layer and brush black on the dark side of your stock’s face with a soft round brush . Set to soft light , 100%

 

Now go to new layer – image – apply image
Go to Filter – Brush strokes – spatter

choose different settings to last time .
Erase everywhere except for around your stock , so it looks like a large outline
Set to screen , 100%

Now add a pattern fill layer .
Now go to layer – New fill layer – Pattern
choose whatever pattern you like and with a black brush , erase parts of it away on the layer mask .

Set to hard mix at low opacity ( I used 90%)

Go to New layer – Image – Apply Image
Go to Filter – Distort – Ripple
choose a low-ish setting . so it doesn’t over – distort it . erase parts .

set to lighten , 100%

Now add a black / white gradient map and set it to multiply , 35% opacity .

Now add a violet , orange gradient map , set to multiply , 16% .

Now add a (( medium spectrum )) gradient map .
You should find it if you go to Load – Spectrums

set to darken , 100%

Now go to New Layer – Image – Apply image
Set this layer to screen at 87%

Make a new layer and make a circle with the circle tool m fill it with white ( Using paint bucket tool )

Now add a pattern overlay , of this pattern , in the defaults .

Now erase through it with a splatter brush and lower the opacity . move it to a place in your signature with little texture , I left it on normal .

Now duplicate that layer and move it around .

Make a new layer and brush with a splatter brush in white along the bottom .
Set it to soft light , 100%

Repeat the last step , but do less splatter .

Now go to new layer – image – apply image
Now go to Filter- sharpen sharpen

Erase the side of it which is darker , i.e the side without lighting , it should be more blurred anyway .
Set to normal , 100%

Add a border

Then Just add a curves layer for depth and thats it
