My inspiration for these tutorials comes from all over. This particular one came from the shirt I was wearing.

My inspiration for these tutorials comes from many places. This particular one came from the shirt I was wearing at the time.

It has bold yellow and green with the usual RVCA symbols. This is built over a background of repeated RVCA logos.

To follow the tutorial you will need to download a suitable font. I chose Eurostile which has also been used in the past for the famous fcuk branding.

Pre-Step: Logos and Fonts

Before we begin we’re going to need to download the logo/fonts and take a look at what we’re making. I took a picture of the shirt I was wearing.

As you can see, we’re going to need the rvca logo to use as a pattern, for the yellow parts. I was able to find this rather easily online. You can save the image below.

Last but not least, we are going to need a font similar to the one used in the shirt (the rvca part). When I looked at the shirt it immediately reminded me of a font I have on my computer called “Eurostile”. It’s a little different, but we can fix that with font settings. I think this font came pre-installed on my mac, so be sure to check. If not you can download it here(downloaded the bold extended #2 version).

Step 1: Creating The Patterns

Looking at the shirt you can see two patterns. The “RVCA” one and the actual logo. Each one looks like its tilted around 20 degrees. Open up the logo I had you download in photoshop. Use the quick selection tool to delete all the white from it. Also delete the “RVCA” text on it (you can use the rectangular marquee tool for that).

Create a new 150×150 pixel document, with a transparent background, and copy the logo to it.

Open up free transform on the logo layer (edit>free transform). Hold shift and rotate the logo one notch counter-clockwise. Place the logo in the bottom right corner. It should look like the image below. after you do that define it as a pattern (edit>define pattern).

Now we have to create a pattern for the text. Delete the logo from the 150×150 document, and grab the text tool. Type out “RVCA” (in all caps, 28pt). Remember to use the “Eurostile” font I had you download.

Use the the same font settings as me. They’re shown in the picture.

Open up free transform (ctrl+t) and rotate the text 1 notch counter-clockwise. Place it in the bottom right corner, and crop out the top 60% of the document. When done, define it as a pattern.

Step 2: Creating the Shirt

Now that we have all our patters set up, we can actually make the shirt logo! Open up a fresh document, 600×300 pixels in size.

Grab the rectangular marquee tool. On the top bar change the style to fixed size and enter the dimensions 300×300 (half the document). Fill the left half of the screen bright yellow (#f5de4e).

Create a new layer, on this one fill the right side green (#1ab440).

Now it’s time to create the two V’s. Grab the text tool and type on V using the green color. Also use all the same text settings as before, just up the size to 300pt. Place it centered on the left half.

Duplicate the V text layer (ctrl+j). Open up free transform and rotate the layer 180 degrees (hold shift). Change its color to the bright yellow we used earlier, and place it on the right side. Here’s what you should have so far.

Step 3: Applying the patterns

Open up blending options (layer>layer style>blending options) on the two yellow layers (background and text, do one at a time), and apply pattern overlay with the following settings.

Now do the same thing for the green layers, except use the text pattern and these settings.

Thats it, you’re done! I think it looks pretty close to close to the original. Here’s how it should turn out:

With the internet going in the direction of easily accessible and aesthetically pleasing websites, updating your logo is a must. This tutorial will step you through creating a web 2 style logo in Adobe Photoshop in about 10 minutes. By having a clean style logo, your visitors should be more likely to stay at, visit, and purchase from your site.

Create a new document that is 500px wide and about 80px high. Make sure the mode is RGB Color and the background is white.

Add your text to the image. For this demonstration, we used Impact font at 48pt with a stretch setting of 100. Position the text near the top.

Double click on your layer to bring up the Layer Style menu and apply an outer glow of Normal, 75, 0, 7E7E7E, Softer, 0, 5, 50, 0.

Now apply an inner glow of Normal, 75, 0, DADADA, 0, 3, 50, 0.

Next, we need to apply a gradient overlay of Normal, 100, 0048CB to 007DF2, Linear, Align with Layer, 90, 100.

To top of the effects, add a stroke with 1, Outside, Normal, 100, FFFFFF as the settings.

Now, right click on the main layer and select duplicate layer.

Click on the duplicated layer to select it. Now go to Edit –> Transform –> Flip Vertical.

Now, move the duplicated layer so it mirrors the original layer (this will be our reflection). Create a new layer (shtf + ctrl + n) and use the selection tool to make a box around the duplicate layer.

Make a gradient tool (located underneath the paint bucket in the main toolbar), and create a white overlay starting 1/2 way up the selection box.

Now make a box over the top layer that covers the top half. Make a new layer (shft + ctrl + n) and fill it with FFFFFF using the bucket tool. Set the opacity to 12.

And there you have it. The final logo should look similar to the one below.

In this tutorial I will be teaching you how to design a t-shirt using photoshop, specifically a Skull Design for a T-Shirt, like the one below:

If you want some background on designing shirts in photoshop, have a look at my Useful T Shirt Tips Section at the end of the Tutorial as well as the following

my skull design page and

a great collection of T-Shirt templates.

Some questions have been asked about the skull and red splat images with respect to copyright. Sadly the origin of these images has been lost in the mists of time. I am using them because I believe I do own them as I took ownership when I bought the website. I have tried tracking them down using TinEye but without success. As positive identification of their origin is unknown I’m afraid that to err on the safe side I would say they are for personal use only. Do not use them on the internet or for commercial projects.

Many free suitable images can be found such as this one.

Jump to the Useful T Shirt Tips Section at the end of the Tutorial or continue on this page with the photoshop t shirt tutorial itself.

Step 1:

Before we start we’ll need a few resources. You’ll need to download the following images:

T-Shirt

Splat

Skull

Step 2:

Next you’ll need to download the font I used here.

Option: You can always decide to use a different font to make your shirt more custom

Step 3:

Now that we’ve got all our resources, we can begin the designing!

First let’s open up all the images you just downloaded, in Photoshop.

Drag the Splat image into the T-Shirt document and position the Splat so it’s at the Top-Center-Left of the T-shirt. Now close the Splat image. You should now have something like below:

Step 4:

Now let’s add the Star Shape. Get our the Custom Shape tool and on a new layer, draw a good-sized Black star with a 2 pixel White stroke.

Make sure this layer is over the Splat layer. Use the image below as a guide:

Now we’re going to start playing around with the perspective of this Star Shape. Press CRTL + T to transform the shape and click Perspective.

Use the image below as a guide:

Now use the the Transform Handles to change the perspective and position of the Star Shape to how you want it.

I choose to make it look sort of 3D, like below:

Starting to look good already, huh?

Step 5:

Now we’ll be adding the Skull image under the Star shape but over the Splat image. Get the Skull image in Photoshop and drag it in the document you’ve been working with.

Simply, position the Skull image so it’s under the Star shape but over the Splat image.

You may use the images below as a guide:

Here’s how my Layer’s Pallete looks like:

Step 6:

To finish off our Skull/Grunge T-Shirt Design, we’re going to add some text using that font you downloaded (or you can use your own).

Using Planet Kosmos, Size 8, Sharp type out Skulls in Black with a 2px White stroke.

Now Rotate it a few degrees to the left and position it so it’s on the right side of the Star shape. Use the image below as a guide:

And now you’re finally done with your Skull/Grunge T-Shirt Design!

If you want to take the next step and get more serious about t-shirt design you must read this article by Jeff Finley at GoMediazine which is really good advice.

Another Jeff Finley article about SceneXCore which goes nicely with the Skull theme of course.

When creating your Design, use a stock photo as a guide. It makes things a lot easier than staring at a blank canvas

Always use strong visual elements when choosing t shirt images. Subtle and delicate shapes don’t work.

Combine text and graphical elements in believable ways. e.g. text going through skull eyes

The file you give to your printer must be inverted as it will become the template for screening ink onto the shirts.

Light t shirts need only one pass at the printers. Dark shirts need a double pass and will of course cost more to produce.

In this tutorial, we will learn to create a logo for a media company.

Create a new file of your choice. Fill the background with black. Select type tool and type ‘m’ with these settings:

Font name = Times New Roman
Font size = 100 points
Font color = #00C0FF

Duplicate the type layer by pressing control+j and change the color to white.

Duplicate the layer again. This time, change the text color to #006485.

Hide the last type layer by clicking on the eye icon.

Click on the middle or white colored type layer to activate it. Press ‘alt’ key and click on the point shown by the arrow. It will create a clipping mask.

Now, click on the move tool and press the up arrow key from the keyboard to move the white colored ‘m’ type layer 16 pixel upward.

Click on the empty box in the 3rd type layer to show it.

Press alt key and click on the middle layer to make the clipping mask.

Now move the third type layer 3 pixel right side.

Using the same technique, draw a circle, duplicate it two times, make clipping mask and adjust the layers to have a shape like shown in the figure.

Group and merge the text and circle layer. Press control+j to duplicate the layer. Press control+t and transform the layer as shown.

Change the layer opacity of duplicate layer to 28%. You will see a nice reflection of the shape.

Draw a light grey colored circle between the two layers.

Type “Media Group” and change the text color to #006485.

Duplicate the type layer. Change its color to white and press down arrow key once to add white color shade to the text. Our logo is ready.

Create a Globe Icon for your website which can also be used a a basis for a logo.

Create a new 104 x 104 canvas. Fill in the backgrond with #D6D6D6. Go to your character map and look for the globe graphic. Select and copy it. Go back to photoshop, create a new text layer and paste it there (don’t forget to change your font setting to webdings). Use font color #1E8100 and font size 72.

Create a new layer below your text layer. Using your shapes tool, draw a white circle (making it the same size as your text). If your circle it too small or too big, just hold down CTRL + T (the transform tool) and resize it.

On the same layer, double click on it. A layer style window should appear. Fill in the following properties:

To find the actual colors I’ve used in the layer styles, copy right screen shots (right click > copy), paste in a new photoshop file, then use eyedrop tool click on the color

Go back to your text layer (the one with the webding font. Change it’s opactiy to 65%.

In this tutorial, I will be explaining a very simple and straightforward way of creating Sky’s latest logo. We will be using layer styles and adjustment layers to achieve a transparent glass effect, which will come in handy for many other graphics too.

I used Adobe Photoshop CS3 to create the outcome to this tutorial, but certainly earlier versions of the program will also be entirely suitable. This tutorial requires no advanced knowledge of Photoshop, and should be easy for everyone to follow.

The outcome of the tutorial is shown below:

If the Sky Logo isn’t what you are looking for have a look in the Sidebar or follow this Photoshop Logo Tutorial link for some more logo tutorials

Looking for an Adobe Illustrator Sky Logo?

TVARK has a great selection of Sky things

Step One:

Firstly, you will need to download the font that is used to create the sky logo. You can find it at this link here: http://www.dafont.com/sky-logos.font
Once you have installed the different TrueType font files, they should automatically load up for use in Photoshop. If not, restart Photoshop and try again.

Step Two:

Create a new document with a white background at a size measuring 500 x 300 pixels. Select the ‘Horizontal Type Tool’ and using the ‘Sky TV Channel Logos’ font, type the number ‘8’ with a size of 400pt into your text box using black as your colour. Make sure that ‘Smooth’ is selected in the drop down anti-aliasing menu.

You should now have something that looks like this:

Step Three:

This is where the fun begins! Using only layer styles, we can achieve an awesome transparent glass effect. If you are using the same sized text as me, these settings will be perfect. Otherwise, you may have to alter them slightly depending on your text size, but they fundamentally remain the same.

Open up the ‘Layer Styles’ menu by clicking on the small ‘fx’ icon at the bottom of the layers palette, or alternatively, double click on your layer in the palette. The first style we will be adding is a ‘Bevel and Emboss’. Make sure that the settings have been changed to match those shown in the screenshot below:

Depth: 225%

Size: 4px

Use Global Light: Unchecked

Altitude: 65 degrees

Glass Contour: Custom

You will also need to add a ‘Contour’ to the ‘Bevel and Emboss’ setting, so check the box underneath in the Layer Styles menu, and select this to go to the menu. Simply select the first option in the drop down menu with the diagonal sloping line, like the one shown below:

You should now have something that looks similar to the image below. It looks awful now, but it makes all the difference for later!

Step Four:

Keep the ‘Layer Styles’ menu open, as we will now be adding a colour overlay. Simply select this in the menu, and add a white overlay like that shown in the screenshot below:

Also, we will be adding a ‘Satin’ to the image, so select that option in the ‘Layer Styles’ menu and alter the settings to those shown below:

Opacity: 20%

Distance: 14px

Size: 21px

That’s all the layer styling you need! Your image should now look like this:

Step Five:

The final step is to add the blue tint to the text. We will be doing this through the use of an adjustment layer, which are amazingly handy layers which can be used to change a number of different things such as colour, tone and contrast.

Go to the bottom of the layers palette again, and click on the small circle icon, which is filled in half black and half white. A small menu should then appear, where you should select the ‘Colour Balance’ option. It should open up another menu with different ‘slider’ options. Simply follow the screenshots below to get the correct settings.

Cyan/Red: -40

Magenta/Green: 0

Yellow/Blue: +34

Cyan/Red: -4

Magenta/Green: 0

Yellow/Blue: +16

Cyan/Red: -10

Magenta/Green: 0

Yellow/Blue: +7

Now you are finished! Here is your final outcome:

You may want to expand on this technique through sharpening, experimenting with different colours, or adding more distinct highlights and shadows. Have fun!
