Quick Anime Avatar

Face12

In this tutorial, I’ll step you through how to create an anime avatar in Photoshop CS3.

Face1

To start off, I’m going to need to draw my character. I’m going to do it rather quickly and use shapes in conjunction with Edit > Transform > Warp. All these shapes will use a 1px black stroke. The first shape will be the head and have a tan fill. Once I’ve finished warping the head shape, I’ll make two more shapes for the eyes, and give them a white fill:

Next, I’ll make pupils and use the line tool to create a nose impression:

Moving one, I’ve used the Ellipse tool to make a black oval behind the other layers, rasterized the layer, and then used the Eraser tool to make the hair as seen below:

Face6

Another shape will make the body:

Face7

To add some highlights and shadows, I’m creating a new layer and using a black brush with the opacity set to 10%:

Face8

For the background I’ve used the pen tool to create the custom shapes:

Face9

The mouth is a rounded rectangle, and again I’ll use the warp tool to shape it:

you should check out Manga University and get some real tutorials on how to use PhotoShop for creating an anime character! My 3 year old nephew could do the avatar you drew.
I’m sure it took effort, but if you are making a tutorial, make it educational and not embarrasing. Sorry Dude!

  • admin says:

Could your 3 year old do me some tutorials please, I’m always on the lookout for good stuff :)

Manga University is very poor. The section entitled “Photoshop Tutorials” is all about Paint Shop Pro! My 2 year old knows the difference between PSP and Photoshop!

  • YahTrickYahEwwe says:

Well its not teh best but uhh….good effort??
